From West wind Records comes another nice re-release : The Nat Adderly Quintet + The Cannonball Adderly Group  : Live on planet earth.  Orgianlly released on West Wind in the mid nineties, this album consists out of three different sessions!  Opening the CD are three tracks recorded in 1962 in New York as the Cannonball Adderly Group.  Featuring Cannonball Adderly, Nat Adderly, Yusef Lateef, and Joe Zawinul amongst others! “Gemini”, “Planet Earth” and “Cannon’s Theme” are taken from that session an put on this disc.  Especially the last one is great tune that really swings with great contributions of Lateef  & Nat Adderly.

From July 1966, also from New York, comes “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy”.  Again featuring Cannonball Adderly, Nat Adderly and Joe Zawinul.  “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” is one of those classic jazz songs that everybody knows even if you are not into the scene! The tune is without doubt the highlight of the album and remembers us once more what a great musician composer and pianist Joe Zawinul really is.

The rest of the album is credited top the Nat Adderly quintet and was recorded in the mid eighties in San Fancisco.  While the Cannonball Adderly Group was really one of the long lived jazz groups in the history of modern Jazz Music and was really a big hit in the sixties, The Nat Adderly quintet is not unimportant as well!  Formed much later without Mr Cannonball Adderly this band features musicians like Jimmy Cobb, sonny fortune & Larry Willis on this session and although more quietly and less swinging this music really is hot even including a Bossa Nova tune!
